Salam Alaikum,
After a break of one month, I am back, alhamdulillah. Brother
Khalid Khan was also out of the country and he is also back. The visit
was part family and part social work. Inshallah, details about the
social work aspect will follow later.
Here are updates of ISON related work.
1. Workshop on Domestic Abuse
Inshallah, on Feb 20, 2010 the Jamia Masjid will organize a four
hour workshop on Domestic Abuse, Foster Care and related matters.
Experts in the field of Domestic Violence would be coming from Chicago
and Southern California. The program will begin at 11AM on Saturday and
with a break of one hour between 1 and 2 PM will conclude at 4:00 PM.
Lunch will be served. Please call or e mail to confirm your
attendance. Sister Firdousi Wharton is coordinating the workshop.
2. Milad Un Nabi
The Mila un Nabi is on February 26, this year, e.g. 12th Rabi ul
Awwal.The Jamia Masjid will organize an evening focusing on the life
and teachings of Prophet Muhammad on February 27, Saturday.
3. Interfaith Council
Dr. Shamoon Ahmed, Dr. Mohammad Shafi,jahid Ramadan and Dr. Aslam
Abdullah are nominated for the board of Directors of the Southern
Nevada Interfaith Council. The Islamic Society of Nevada is a regular
participant in interfaith activities in Nevada.
4. Sunday School
Sunday school runs betw 10:30 AM till 1: PM. We are still looking
for teachers who could follow the school curriculum. Please apply in
perso at the school.
5. Zikr and Salat Tasbih at Jamia every Friday evening
Brothers and sisters are holding regular zikr at the Jamia after
Maghrib every Friday and Salat Tasbih after Isha prayers. Pot luck
dinner is served.
6. Quranin Understanding classes
Every Thursday, sisters hold their Quranic understanding classes
at 10 AM at the Masjid. Additionally, every week a new topic is also
discussed. This week's topic is Magic: How it is viewed in the Quran
7. Donations sought
Islamic Society Nevada runs on the basis of generous donations of
its supporters. P{lease donate generously for various projects of the
Islam Society.
The projects include
Sunday School, Relief to the poor and the needy, Saturday hifz
school, feeding the poor, interfaith work, Arabic and Quran classes for
youth and adults, Distribution of clothes to the needy, groceries for
the needy families, R work
