LVMuslim.com was launched a day after President Obama took office. Therefore, it is only fitting to brag about some of LVMuslim.com's accomplishments as well. This is the 98th post on the blog, 2 short of the 100 I was hoping for, but that would have been too planned.
LVMuslim.com, since its launch, has had nearly 9000 page-views, with an average stay of over 4 minutes on the site per visitor. There is a hardcore following by many non-Vegas residents as well. So far, there have been visitors from 35 different countries and 35 different states. Saudi Arabia, United Kingdom and Kuwait comprise the top 3 most frequent visiting countries besides the USA. California, Kansas and New York comprise the most frequent visiting states after Nevada. Many of the blog posts consistently appear as the top search results on Google. Google.com, MasjidLV.com, Facebook.com, Vegasdesi.com, Twitter.com and IslamicFinder.org are the most popular referring sites to the blog. A special thank you to all for their support. Besides the top menu buttons and the Las Vegas Resources buttons, the most viewed post on the blog thus far is the Video: "Islam, A World Movement Conference".

Malcolm X Janaza Prayer (February 27, 1965)
As salaam alaykum
The passing of Dr. Hassan Hathout is just another reminder that death is inevitable. He was such a common sense speaker that everyone could benefit. Not only an elder, but also a very wise man, whose love, passion and conviction was evident every time he spoke. I often searched the Internet looking for khutbahs by him. The last two years we have witnessed the death of many jewels, men and women who have sacrificed so much for the development of Islam in America. In this blog post I will talk about the men and in the future I will write about women pioneers. No matter what sex, they are proof that the race does not belong to the swift, but to the one with endurance.
Among those luminaries is Imam Wallace Muhammad, who led the largest single handed conversion in modern history. Imam Muhammad gave Shahadatain to tens of thousands of people at one time. Maybe he was the only one to ever give Shahadah over the telelink to numerous Masjids at one time. There was also the death of Hishaam Jabar, the name maybe unfamiliar, but the commitment to Islam and the Muslim Community is clearly demonstrated in photographs. Photographs of Shaykh Hishaam Jabar can be seen in many Malcom X books and documentaries. Have you ever wondered who the African American Muslim was with the Arab headgear on, leading Malcom X's Janazah prayer? That was Hisham Jabbar, who risked his life to perform that Janazah prayer.

FBI Muslim outreach harmed by abusive tactics
By Dr. Agha Saeed, Special to IFN
A recent statement by a coalition of major national Islamic organizations cited a number of incidents in which the government unfairly targeted American mosques and Muslim groups and said concern over those abuses could result in the suspension of long-standing community outreach initiatives with the FBI.
That statement, issued by the American Muslim Taskforce on Civil Rights and Elections, is at its heart really a call for increased engagement and dialogue based on mutual respect and the preservation of constitutionally-protected civil and religious rights, not just on photo opportunities.
The essence of civic engagement, as practiced by Dr. Martin Luther King, is to create public awareness of unjust policies and tactics and to make it impossible for an oppressive status quo to be sustained.

Always smiling, always optimistic, always cheerful, always humble,
always first to greet and always first to seek Allah's blessings for
whomever he met, always ready to serve His cause no matter how
seriously ill he was and always willing to contribute to the cause of
Islam with all the resources that he had. That was Dr. Hassan Hathout,
a legendary figure in the 21st century Muslim community. I had heard
of him in London, from Dr. Fathi Osman, the editor-in Chief of
Arabia, the Islamic World Review, where I was working as a junior
editor. Dr. Osman had introduced him as a leading Muslim intellectual
of the past century, a freedom fighter, a human rights activist and a
down to earth Islamic scholar. A few stories about Dr. Hassan Hathout
that circulated in the Arabia's office were quite amazing. One such
story was that he saved a Jewish soldier from near death in the
battlefield in 1948 during the first war between the Arabs and the
Israeli despite the fact that he was serving on the Palestinian side.
The story that he performed a critical surgery on his patient even
after getting the news of then his only six year old daughter in a car
accident in Scotland spoke of the high moral ethics he held supreme.
The story that he had decided to call off his successful medical
practice in Kuwait to migrate to the USA to serve Islam was touching
to those who were skeptical about the Muslim presence in the West.
I got the opportunity to meet Dr. Hassan Hathout in the summer of 1989
when I joined the Minaret magazine. He was larger than the life
stories that I had heard about him. He was more humble than the
standards of humility that people usually set for them and others. He
was more pleasant than one can imagine the extent of pleasantries.
He was eager to pass on his legacy to the younger generations. Always
looking for younger people who could dedicate them to serve Islam, he
would hold special training sessions for them and invite them to his
home to spend as much time as they could afford. He would not refuse
speaking engagements in any gathering no matter how small or large was
audience as long as it served the cause of Islam.
